Spring Fever!
It’s the time of the year that we can’t wait to get outside. And there’s still plenty to do! So rather than upping your screen time, consider going outside!
Enjoy the sun
This time of year, the sun makes all the difference. Just yesterday, I was getting ready to go outside when it was overcast, so I made sure to bundle up. Just minutes later, the sun was shining and I had shed my jacket and gloves! Also, the days are getting longer, so now you can even get fresh air after dinner! Plus no bugs…yet.
Our fun ideas
Here’s some of the recent fun we’ve had:
1) Planting flowers
Inside we have started pansies, bachelor buttons, impatiens, and nasturtiums. All these are edible too! Outside we’ve dug holes and planted canna lilies.
2) Tending our garden plants
We always start peppers, tomatoes, Brussel sprouts, and celery inside in early spring for these late-yield plants. We have more than ever growing since we’re expanding our garden this year!
3) Enjoying microgreens
Fresh produce is a special treat this time of the year…and it doesn’t get fresher than this. See earlier post on these tasty munchies!
4) Yardwork
We have all our sticks picked up in our yard. Plus this time of year isn’t too hot for this activity.
5) Campfire
All the sticks are great for our first campfire of the year.
6) Get the bikes tuned up and out of the garage
Our children love riding in the driveway. For a change of scenery, we put the kids in the bike trailer for a ride - this is the perfect time to explore country roads.
7) Adventure in the woods
We’re still enjoying skiing and with minimal vegetation, we can hike in areas we normally can’t explore, with the goal of uncovering deer sheds.
8) Enjoy our sun
We enjoy swinging, playing tag, bubbles, digging in the snowbanks, jump rope, reading a book outside with no bugs!
9) Scavenger hunt
Our kids love hiding Easter eggs for each other then giving clues to find them. I’m tempted to join in too.
10) Fly a kite
We haven’t built and flown kites yet, but we’re looking forward to incorporating art and science projects with some outdoor fun.
We’d love to hear more activities, so share your ideas below!
